Range of mountains at sunrise ! (Skyline Dr., VA)
Location : Skyline Drive, Virginia.
Description : "There are far better things ahead than the ones we leave behind"
Skyline Drive, Virginia
Skyline Drive is a 105-mile road that runs the entire length of the National Park Service's Shenandoah National Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, generally along the ridge of the mountains.
I always wanted to get this kind of a shot since the day I visited the Blue Ridge Parkway during fall of 2015. At that time I did not have a telephoto lens to get the reach to capture this. So when I visited the Skyline Drive last weekend, I finally managed to capture the blue outline of the mountains from one of the overlooks during the early morning hours. It helps to wake up early :)
Why do mountains appear blue in the distance?
Blue light scatters out of the sunlight in the atmosphere, and so you're essentially seeing sky-light from between you and the thing you're looking at. If there were no atmosphere on the earth, the distant mountains would be the same color as the near mountains.
This is a blend of 3 exposures for better DR.
